Update on Mr. Sammy Bones

Some have called him, “The Brad Pitt of dogs,” others know him affectionately as Mr.Bones, Samson, or a combination of the two: Sammy Bones. Call him whichever moniker you like, one thing we can all agree on is Samson’s total likability. His disarming charm,  fierce loyalty, and general cuddliness all contribute to his buoyant popularity, particularly in North Park and the rest of the greater San Diego area.

We almost lost Samson to cancer less than two years ago. He was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer around November 2010, and was given only weeks to live. Chemotherapy treatment was available, but at the cost of thousands of dollars – so it seemed, sadly, out of reach. And then, something amazing happened. The North Park community came together, pooled resources, and helped put on the “Save Sammy Bones!” fundraiser, held at Disconnected Salon on December 9, 2010.

The event was a total success, and we raised over $8,000! It was enough to start the first round of chemotherapy for Samson and it helped save his life. Really. The amazing people in our community saved his life. And for that, we are so grateful.
So, what has Samson been up to since beating cancer? Well, he has retired from his position at Disconnected Salon in order to enjoy life.Samson has it pretty good: he sleeps in ’till about 10 a.m. everyday, and eats a variety of delicious cuisine – chicken, vegetables and eggs. Eggs are his favorite!

He has a huge backyard to play in, and he spends a lot of time with his brother Dexter.

He goes to the veterinarian every couple of months to get a check-up to make sure that he stays cancer-free. So far, so good 🙂

Samson also spends his time going for walks, and playing in the rain.

Samson is loved by so many people. On special request, he is also known to venture out of retirement and pay a visit to his special family at Disconnected Salon.

So, again, thank you for your help almost two years ago raising money for his treatment. Samson beat cancer, and has a full, peaceful (and spoiled!) life.

Come into Disconnected Salon, and if you are lucky, you might just catch him there.
