Happy April, Guys and Dolls. We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to talk about something important—our planet!
At Disconnected Salon, we are always searching for ways to reduce water usage and put our best (greenest!?) foot forward.
We picked out plants that require minimal watering for our living displays, always serve our guests beverages in glasses instead of plastic, turn off running water to treat our clients to soothing scalp massages mid shampoo, and promote earth-friendly hair products with a purpose.
One such product is disco house favorite Purely Perfect. We’ve been gaga for the incredible product since its inception.
Purely Perfect hair Cleansing Creme is sulphate and paraben-free. In fact, it’s completely detergent-free – and that’s the BIG difference. No matter what type of hair you have, you won’t need conditioner. You won’t need a masque. You won’t need a detangler. You may not even need as many styling products. And, you won’t watch your precious color swirl down the drain. When one product does the job of three or four, you’ll throw away fewer bottles, spend less money, and save time, energy and water.
Beyond reaching for earth-minded products, we continue to make tweaks and changes to do our part. As Maya Angelou once said so beautifully, “Do the best you can, until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”.
By now, we all have had the basics drilled into us (low flow toilets and shower heads, efficient washing machines) so here are a few obscure ways to conserve a precious resource:
•Wash fruit and salad greens together in a pot of water. Instead of washing under a running faucet, fill a pot instead. Not only will you save a good amount of water, but the water in the pot can also be reused to water your plants.
•Know your Water Footprint. The water footprint measures the amount of water used to produce each of the goods and services we use. Check out www.waterfootprint.com for more information.
•Get on board with that whole meatless thing. Raising livestock for consumption uses a tremendous amount of water. We can save more water by not eating meat for just a few days than we can by not showering for an entire year. An added perk to more veggies on your plate: clear skin and bright eyes.
Until next time, experiment with dry shampoo (Seven makes a great one!), recycle-reduce-reuse, and stop in to the Salon for the services you love.
